Easter And Beyond, Happy Easter Everyone!

How do you celebrate and what do you have for Easter lunch?

Do you go to parades or Festas?
We have Festas which are really crowded with rowdy celebrations. Shop windows are boarded up. We have church parades with Saints statues being carried round the streets.
There is an aftermath of beer cans, bottles, half-eaten pizzas and rubbish-strewn streets.
First, we have the church coming to bless our houses, then church parades with bands of oompah music. There are always stalls selling tat and street food. We have many people dressed in red or blue depending on their saint. They also throw paint at each other that is red or blue. I don’t wear red or blue on these occasions and would hate to be covered in paint, as many are. Even the policemen are covered in paint and sometimes lipstick from kisses; they seem to enjoy it.
The most bizarre event is that some people do penance to atone for their sins. They have hats a bit like the Klu Klux clan, drag chains in bare feet, and sometimes whip themselves. They pay the church to take part in the parade. The priest calls to bless the house, have a glass of whisky, and collect money. He doesn’t call at my house. He is very often as drunk as a skunk. I avoid the parades, and if I go out, I take the back streets.
Maybe I will go to the seaside for the day. I really don’t enjoy rowdy, drunk crowds.

Our Theme Is…Summertime

This is a funny year…
Winter seems endless.
My thoughts are turning to summer, warm sun, and blue seas.

And yet…
We haven’t had Easter yet.
The weather is still chilly. Many of you have snow again.
I’m longing for the freedom of summer clothes. Tourists here are sporting T-shirts, shorts and summer dresses. However there are strong winds and showers, so I’m never without a raincoat, and still in warm clothes.

As long as we don’t hit 46 Centigrade for summer again, I won’t complain!
Longing for golden sands and blue seas. Deniz is the word for sea in Turkish.

Busy And Busy Bodies, And Emotional Vampires

Green is for envy and jealousy

Some people are emotional Vampires. They drain all your energy.

There are some strangers who chip into your conversation when it has nothing to do with them; bear in mind they have little interest in their own lives, and their lives may well be very boring.

There are some people where I live who pounce on dog walkers…Are you going to pick that shit up? Equally, they pounce on people who dump rubbish in the wrong colour bag or leave rubbish outside someone else’s house.

Another hostility is queue jumping at bus stops.

Do you encounter busybodies? Or curtains twitchers?

This morning, in the post office (Oh, I'm blond, and many are darker here), I was asked for my passport as my ID. I have an ID card from this country, but I am usually taken as a tourist. Oh, the remarks that came out of the blue over that when I asked why a passport. And during Covid, I was told… Go back to your F…ing country! You brought Covid here! Never mind that all airports and ports were closed. My retort was,…Yes, I came illegally on a banana boat with fifty people! Did you? Laughter, of course! Oh did you. Yes! LOL, Busy bodies.

Do you encounter busybodies? Do you take any notice when they chip in? Do you joke or ignore?

Animal Capers

I might add human capers too.

Pets have the capability to ground their owners and actually love us. They don’t care about how much we have in the bank. They can heal or comfort us as real friends.

I loved my collie, he thought he was human! He was more caring than any human I know.
He prided himself on being good. Unless he saw a cat, then he might chase.

My favorite animal story was ‘A lion called Christian’ and how he was introduced into the wilds of Africa. Interesting name for a lion!

Collies are exceptionally intelligent and love to learn. I think it was partly his nature and, of course, undivided attention every day.

I  know everyone here is dotty about the pets they have. There is Mr Lee, who rescued Sally Mae. Layla, who belongs to Kieran, who rescues all animals, hedgehogs and dogs, and has horses too, and cares for and rescues them. Greenwood, too, rescued her dog. Thunder, who even communicates with wild animals.

Animal antics make us laugh, and pets can be amusing. Some trained dogs even do CPR or rescue humans in tragic situations.

I feel sorry we stuff animals into our world and very often split them from their mothers.

Not all people are kind to their animals or even their human partners.
I just read of a woman who couldn’t board a flight with her pet pooch, soshe killed him in the airport….unthinkable…..news cutting below…..How could anyone do such a thing?
