Lighting has changed drastically through the ages.
I’ve always collected lamps. However these days fittings and light bulbs either don’t fit lamps or don’t do justice to antique lamps.

I have a house full of eastern lighting and chandeliers and oil lamps.
Candles are also lit, during power outages, but also when guests arrive.

Atmosphere can be created with the right light.
I love modern architecture, but my house has a mill room that is three hundred years old, walls are three ft thick installing even an air conditioner this year, was a nightmare.
London has a few streets and pubs, with the original gaslights. As a child in the winter, my grandmother conned me into bedtime. I had to wait for the lamplighter to climb his ladder to light the gas lamp, then it was time for bed.

Gas light is soft, but there is a need for more functional lighting for night driving and streets.

Gaslighters are subtle control freaks, it can be difficult to spot them.
